The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is the National Prosecuting Authority in Kenya, established under Article 157 of the Constitution to prosecute all criminal cases in the country. This position is the entry grade for the Prosecution Counsel cadre. Successful candidates will be responsible for representing the state in criminal proceedings and may be deployed to any of the ODPP Regional, County, or Sub-County Offices under the supervision of senior officers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducting criminal and related proceedings in relation to cases instituted before courts of law.
Analyzing judgments and preparing appropriate documents for appeal, review, or revision and related proceedings where necessary.
Conducting pre-trial, in-trial, and post-trial prosecution strategies.
Advising government departments and agencies on criminal matters.
Conducting the prosecution of criminal cases.
Drafting pleadings.
Ensuring prudent management of resources.
Participating in the development and implementation of annual work plans, procurement plans, and budgets.
Collecting, collating, analyzing, and submitting criminal statistical data and reports.
Liaising with the police and other law enforcement agencies.
Conducting legal research on assigned files.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university.
A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education.
Admission as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Membership in the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
Compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
