Role Overview
Action Against Hunger (ACF) USA is seeking a Program Temporary Support Assistant to support campaigning, policy research, and public engagement efforts focused on addressing the root causes of hunger and enhancing Humanitarian Diplomacy in the Horn of Africa. Working under the guidance and direct supervision of the Regional Advocacy Specialist, the successful candidate will help implement the organization's advocacy strategy to increase influence and visibility in the region, while raising awareness among partners, donors, the media, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support Planning and Implementation of Advocacy Activities
Assist in the development of advocacy and external relations activities, including multi-media packages, policy and research analysis toolkits, and social media content for engagement.
Support the advocacy department in the production and finalization of advocacy and external relations products.
Help plan and implement advocacy workshops, campaigns, and events.
Monitor humanitarian landscapes in strategic priority areas relevant to ACF USA.
Assist in managing external relations, including website and social media platforms and monthly newsletters in partnership with the Global Communications team.
Ensure all communication products and deliverables for external audiences are appropriately branded in line with Action Against Hunger and donor compliance guidelines.
Proactively seek out interesting stories from programs, initiating field visits to collect high-quality photos, case/success stories, and quotes.
2. Strategic Development and Implementation
Monitor and analyze humanitarian developments in the Horn of Africa and share updates through regular email updates and briefing notes.
Support the development of policy analysis on emerging crises to inform ACF’s positioning and planning.
Collaborate with colleagues and civil society partners to ensure information is communicated timely to regional and international advocacy offices.
Work with the Regional and Global Advocacy team to translate technical research into policy briefs and discussion papers to influence decision-makers.
Mainstream communication in programs and support technical monthly/quarterly and annual reporting.
3. Humanitarian Diplomacy and Accountability
Support the implementation of innovative and evidence-based advocacy initiatives to build the organization's reputation.
Support multi-media campaign development and coordinate the preparation of communication publications for internal and external purposes.
Develop a database of contacts among humanitarian organizations, coordination bodies, and donor organizations for effective information sharing.
Support the Regional community of practice in areas of policy, advocacy, and campaigning.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Exposure to precarious settings with high-security risks or basic living conditions may occur during field visits.
Requirements and Qualifications
Degree in International Affairs, Public Policy, Development Studies, or Political Science.
Diploma in Water Engineering or a related field (noted as an additional requirement in the source).
Ability to think and operate strategically and creatively.
Strong lobbying and political skills: persuasive, diplomatic, and articulate.
Experience with media and writing public statements/presentations.
Flexible, self-starter, with a team-player attitude and strong attention to detail.
Ability to communicate clearly and work independently in a cross-cultural setting.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fluent in English (written and verbal).
Strong initiative, influencing skills, and critical analysis capabilities.
