The Principal Legal Counsel, Commercial is responsible for the preparation and management of contracts, including leases and other general commercial law issues. The role involves driving the contract lifecycle from drafting through negotiation and execution, providing legal guidance for product implementation, and managing legal risks within the financial services sector.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Management: Drive contract lifecycle from drafting through completion of negotiation process, review and contract execution. This includes preparing and managing leases and general commercial law contracts.
Project Support: Lead support for contract initiatives and major business projects.
Product Gate Management: Participate in product gate processes, including tender opening activities, supplier evaluation, and key business project initiatives.
Policy & Risk Review: Review contract policy, risk management, and processes in collaboration with the risk and compliance unit to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
Legal Advisory: Provide legal opinions and guidance regarding commercial contracts being negotiated and signed, as well as legal and commercial requirements for all product implementations.
Training: Conduct legal awareness training sessions on relevant commercial legal issues for appropriate stakeholders.
Probate Administration: Oversee the administration of probate accounts.
Data & Reporting: Manage legal data and provide statistical reporting for management review.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university.
Diploma in Law and Advocate of the Court.
A minimum of seven (7) years' relevant post-admission work experience.
Proven experience in legal drafting and commercial contracting.
Experience in contract lifecycle management, preferably in the financial services sector and/or international contracting.
Strong skills in legal communication, advocacy, and stakeholder management.
Demonstrated knowledge of legal risk and compliance management.
