The National Legal Aid Service (NLAS) is a state agency established under the Legal Aid Act 2016 with the mandate to offer legal aid services to vulnerable, marginalized, and indigent persons. NLAS is seeking to recruit a qualified individual for the position of Principal Accountant.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Processing payments.
Monitoring revenue collection and expenditures based on approved budgets.
Applying sound principles, systems, and techniques in accounting for Finances assets, revenue, expenditure, and costs.
Accounting for special funds, programmes, and projects funds.
Verifying financial reports and bank reconciliation statements.
Authorizing payments and claims within set limits as approved.
Verifying and receipting of all monies due and payable to NLAS.
Analysing and reporting on revenue collected to Management.
Ensuring safe custody of accountable documents.
Preparing quarterly financial management reports.
Ensuring maintenance of proper books of accounts.
Requirements for Appointment
At least nine (9) years’ cumulative work experience, three (3) years of which must have been at the grade of Senior Accountant or in a comparable position in the Private or Public sector.
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Finance/Accounting Option), Economics, Business Administration/Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Part III of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Registered member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ACCA/ICPAK) or any other relevant professional body in good standing.
Certificate in Management Course.
Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance.
