Principal Accountant (2 Posts)

The County Government of Kitui is seeking Principal Accountants for two (2) available posts. This is a senior position within the public service, offered on Permanent and Pensionable Terms of Service.

Salary Scale

Ksh. 58,360 rising to Ksh. 90,200 per month.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be responsible for providing comprehensive oversight and leadership in accounting services, including:

• Planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising areas of control.
• Training and development of staff under supervision, and setting performance targets for the division.
• Undertaking ad hoc assignments relating to accounting services.
• Assisting in the preparation of final accounts.
• Ensuring safe custody of government assets and records under supervision.
• Authorizing payments and signing of cheques subject to limit set for the position.
• Ensuring timely and accurate preparation of quality management reports that fall under the division.
• Guiding officers under supervision to achieve the desired results.

Requirements for Appointment

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Be a Citizen of Kenya.
• Served in the grade of Chief Accountant, Job Group ‘M’ or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for a minimum period of three (3) years.
• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option) AND have passed Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination; OR must have passed Part III of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination or its recognized equivalent.
• Must be registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Registration of Accountants Board (RAB).
• Must have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
