Job Description
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), in collaboration with the University of Oslo (UiO), Norway, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the PANFUND project. This role focuses on ethnographic, qualitative, and policy research within the context of global health governance and international development. The fellowship is a three-year appointment aimed at producing high-impact research findings and academic publications.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct ethnographic, qualitative, and/or policy research aligned with project objectives.
Participate in project meetings, seminars, and workshops at KEMRI and University of Oslo (UiO).
Present research findings at national, regional, and international academic and policy forums.
Contribute to project reports, dissemination outputs (policy briefs, blog posts, podcasts), and public engagement activities.
Work closely with the respective Principal Investigators (PIs) and the interdisciplinary research team.
Publish 2-3 peer-reviewed scientific articles within the three-year fellowship period.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: PhD in Social Sciences or Humanities (Medical/Social Anthropology, Development Studies, or related disciplines).
Research Expertise: Documented expertise in qualitative research methods.
Writing Skills: Strong academic writing and a proven publication record.
Geographic Experience: Proven independent research experience specifically in East Africa.
Language Proficiency: Excellent written and oral proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary and international teams.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and preferably NVivo or other qualitative data analysis software.
Interests: Demonstrated interest in global health governance and international development policy.
Academic Standards: Commitment to contributing to the academic and research standards of both host institutions.
Added Advantage: Evidence of existing peer-reviewed publication(s).
