South Eastern Kenya University is looking for a qualified Plant Operator to handle heavy plant equipment and ensure efficiency in farm operations. The university is a fully-fledged institution that has undergone significant growth since its inception in 2008.
Role Overview
The role entails operating and maintaining heavy machinery (Class B & C) while adhering to safety standards and production targets. The operator will also supervise junior staff and manage maintenance schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Operating heavy plant equipment of ‘difficult rating’ Class B & C effectively, economically, and safely to ensure maximum farm production for the University.
Keeping monthly records of services for the plant, machinery, and equipment.
Preparing monthly and weekly service schedules to ensure all farm targets are met within the University.
Guiding plant operators, turn boys, and attendants in identifying potential breakdowns and liaising with mechanics for servicing.
Supervising the cleanliness of plant equipment.
Assisting in the training of junior plant operators to ensure they carry out objectives effectively.
Maintaining plant equipment work tickets and general maintenance of plants and machinery.
Requirements and Qualifications
At least four (4) years of relevant working experience.
A Valid driving licence classes BCED & H.
Experience with specified types such as Earth movers, Graders, etc.
Must have passed the Suitability test for plant operators Grade II.
Possession of a Defensive Driving Certificate.
Literacy in computer applications.
A valid First Aid Certificate.
A valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) on Leadership and Integrity upon successful appointment.
