Payroll Accountant

Responsibilities

• Payroll Processing: Manage end-to-end payroll for multiple clients accurately and within set timelines.
• Review & Verification: Audit payroll inputs including overtime, bonuses, benefits, and adjustments to ensure accuracy.
• Statutory Compliance: Calculate and file all relevant statutory deductions including PAYE, NSSF, SHA (formerly NHIF), NITA, Housing Levy, and other applicable government levies.
• Tax Filing: Prepare and submit payroll returns through the KRA iTax portal.
• Data Management: Maintain high standards of payroll data integrity and secure physical/digital records.
• Client Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, resolving payroll-related queries promptly.
• Reporting: Generate payroll summaries and periodic reports for client review and internal management.
• Audit Support: Provide documentation and support for payroll audits and reconciliations while upholding strict confidentiality.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Professional Certification: CPA or ACCA qualification is required.
• Experience: 3–5 years of relevant payroll experience, with preference given to candidates from professional services or consulting backgrounds.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong command of Kenyan payroll laws and statutory compliance standards.
• Soft Skills: High attention to detail and excellent communication skills for client interaction.
