Role Overview
Oasis Healthcare is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team in Busia. The Orthopaedic & Trauma Officer provides specialized clinical care for patients presenting with musculoskeletal injuries, fractures, and orthopedic conditions. This role supports the orthopedic surgeon in the assessment, treatment, surgical assistance, and rehabilitation of trauma and elective orthopedic cases, ensuring safe and evidence-based patient management across the continuum of care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with trauma and musculoskeletal conditions.
Diagnosis & Management: Diagnose and manage fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries, and other orthopedic conditions within the scope of practice.
Emergency Care: Provide emergency stabilization of trauma patients, including airway support, hemorrhage control, and shock management.
Procedures: Perform fracture reduction, casting, splinting, traction application, wound care, and other minor orthopedic procedures.
Investigations: Request and interpret diagnostic investigations, including X-rays and relevant laboratory tests.
Referrals: Coordinate referrals for surgical intervention and specialized care when required.
Monitoring: Monitor progress of inpatients and outpatients and watch for complications.
Documentation: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical findings, procedures, and treatment plans in the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).
Standards & Safety: Implement and adhere to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards and ensure proper maintenance of orthopedic equipment.
Patient Education: Educate patients and caregivers on rehabilitation, mobility support, and injury prevention.
Professionalism: Uphold patient confidentiality, ethical standards, and respectful care.
Qualifications and Skills
Diploma or Degree in Orthopedic and Trauma Technology from a recognized institution.
Registered with the relevant professional regulatory body in Kenya.
Strong clinical and technical competence in casting and orthopedic support procedures.
Knowledge of infection prevention and sterile techniques.
Compassionate and patient-centered approach.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and in emergency settings.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
