Job Description
Oasis Healthcare Group is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as an Optometrist in Busia. The primary objective of this role is to provide comprehensive eye care services through clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of visual and ocular conditions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in promoting eye health and ensuring patients receive appropriate optical corrections or medical referrals.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Examinations: Conduct comprehensive eye examinations including visual acuity testing, refraction, slit lamp examination, and ocular health assessment.
Diagnosis and Management: Diagnose and manage refractive errors and common ocular conditions within the scope of practice.
Optical Prescription: Prescribe and dispense corrective lenses, spectacles, and other optical devices as appropriate.
Disease Detection: Detect early signs of ocular diseases and refer complex cases to ophthalmologists or specialized facilities.
Diagnostic Procedures: Perform basic diagnostic procedures such as tonometry and visual field testing.
Patient Education: Provide education on eye care, preventive measures, and management of chronic eye conditions.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient records in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
Infection Control: Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control measures within the eye clinic.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine checks on optometric equipment to ensure accuracy and safety.
Community Outreach: Participate in outreach programs and community eye health promotion initiatives.
Stock Management: Monitor optical stock levels and ensure proper management of lenses and consumables.
Quality Improvement: Participate in clinical audits, SafeCare assessments, and continuous quality improvement activities.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with national optometry regulatory standards and licensing requirements.
Ethical Standards: Uphold professionalism, patient confidentiality, and respectful patient care at all times.
Job Qualifications & Skills
Diploma or Degree in Optometry from a recognized institution.
Valid practicing license from the Optometrists Association of Kenya and/or relevant regulatory authority.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a hospital or accredited eye care setting.
Strong knowledge of refractive techniques and ocular disease screening.
Proficiency in EMR systems and optical dispensing processes.
Excellent patient communication and counseling skills.
High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and ethical conduct.
