City Eye Hospital is a social venture that provides quality and affordable eye care to people living in East Africa. Our primary mandate is to provide affordable and accessible eye care, focusing on both location and price accessibility.
Role Overview
The Ophthalmic Clinical Officer (OCO) is responsible for conducting ophthalmic assessments, managing routine eye conditions, and performing specific surgical procedures. This role is vital in providing high-quality patient care, from diagnosis to post-operative review, and requires close collaboration with a multidisciplinary clinical team.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct thorough ophthalmic assessments and manage routine eye conditions effectively.
Provide clear diagnoses, comprehensive treatment plans, and essential patient education.
Perform SICS/Phaco procedures within the approved scope of practice, provided the candidate is credentialed.
Carry out both pre-operative and post-operative clinical reviews.
Ensure efficient and well-coordinated patient care through timely consultations and clear communication with the clinical team.
Identify patients in need of surgical intervention and facilitate a smooth clinical handover to the booking office.
Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Participate actively in clinical audits, Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions, and various quality improvement activities.
Provide support for outreach programs and cross-site service delivery as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential:
Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
Higher Diploma in Ophthalmology (must be COC-accredited).
Possession of a valid and current practicing license.
Desirable:
Certification in SICS (Small Incision Cataract Surgery) or Phacoemulsification.
Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) or ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
Prior experience in clinical outreach programs.
