The Nursing Officer will work in a specific ward or clinic assigned to them, acting as both a supervisor and team leader for refugee staff. The role involves assisting doctors, conducting clinical observations, administering treatments, and managing clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities
Work in specific ward/clinic assigned to and act as both supervisor and team leader of the refugee staff.
Prepare for and assist doctors during clinical rounds whenever required.
Ensure all required observations, prescribed treatments, and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patients' charts.
Refer relevant clinical information, patient status, and laboratory results to the doctor-in-charge or doctor/clinical officer on-call.
Arrange and submit weekly clinic/ward work schedules and plan daily duties and responsibilities for each refugee staff.
Participate in camp health surveys and campaigns.
Conduct regular training sessions for refugee staff on basic nursing care, management of ward/clinic cases, and charting.
Provide health education to patients and clients.
Compile and submit monthly reports.
Monitor and supervise proper usage of medical supplies.
Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular inventory reports.
Maintain drug registers and drug consumption records at the ward level.
Ensure all admissions, discharges, transfers, and deaths are properly recorded.
Record vital signs and properly document all nursing procedures.
Ensure the clinic/ward is cleaned to the expected standards.
Perform coverage duties and be on-call as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
Over two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
Registered Nurse with a Diploma in Nursing from KMTC (Kenya Medical Training College) or another recognized nurse-training institute.
Valid and current registration license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
