Lighthouse Hospital, founded in 2016 by a team of highly qualified medics in Psychiatry, is seeking a qualified Nurse to provide individualized nursing care to patients in accordance with the Nursing Council of Kenya guidelines.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care, specializing in psychiatric and mental health management. This involves evaluating psychological needs, establishing individual case management plans, and working closely with consultant psychiatrists and families to support patient recovery and independence.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Patient Care & Diagnosis: Carry out evaluation of psychological and mental health needs of patients, elaborate a nursing diagnosis, and establish individual case management plans.
- Care Planning: Develop nursing care plans for patients, provide nursing care as per Nursing Council of Kenya guidelines, and help patients be as independent as possible.
- Treatment Monitoring: Administer and monitor prescribed treatment regimens as per patient’s condition in liaison with medical officers and consultant psychiatrists. Observe and report behavioral changes.
- Family Engagement: Work with patients’ families to help improve the patient’s abilities for self-care and help the caregivers deal with family member’s mental illness.
- Documentation: Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
- Staff Training & Support: Provide orientation to other members of staff and assist/train staff members and resourceful people to enhance the scope of Mental Health activities.
- Community & Networking: Participate in developing community networks to support mental health patients.
- Supervision: Supervise mental health assistants, ensure patient’s records are well-kept, and compile timely weekly and monthly reports.
- Inventory Management: Prepare and maintain an inventory of all medical equipment, pharmaceutical, and non-pharmaceutical materials and supplies.
- Administrative Tasks: Update medical calendars and schedule clinical meetings.
- General Duties: Perform other position-related duties as assigned from time-to-time.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing (Graduate degree level preferred).
- Additional training and certification in Nursing is an advantage.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Nurse, preferably in a mental health and substance use treatment institution.
- Extensive experience in all aspects of Customer Relationship Management.
- Strong written, verbal, and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to team with colleagues for the betterment of the institution.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to do quality work under minimal supervision.
- Able to manage demands of a growing specialized medical rehabilitation center.
Measures of Success
- Excellent execution of assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Excellent daily, weekly, and quarterly achievement of objectives as agreed with the Clinical Director.
