Medical Laboratory Technologist

Job Purpose

To oversee laboratory operations and promoting good laboratory practice for optimal clinical outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Receiving of patients and customer care services in the laboratory.
• Performing specimen collection and prompt reception of all specimen from clinics, ward and referral facilities.
• Performing daily maintenance of all laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Performing specimen storage and maintain updated specimen logs.
• Performing analysis of specimen.
• Preparation of laboratory reagents, media and standards operating procedures.
• Daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and machines.
• Monitoring of laboratory commodity suppliers.
• Reporting, recording, verification, dispatch and maintaining confidentiality of client results.
• Sourcing and maintaining of hospital blood bank.
• Ensuring of general cleanliness of laboratory working areas and maintaining a cleaning log.
• Ensuring quality assurance and infection prevention control.
• Carrying out any other duties assigned by the medical director and lab manager.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Diploma in medical Laboratory Science.
• Registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
• Computer literacy.
• Good communication skills.
• Good decision making skills.
• Customer care skills.
• High levels of confidentiality, integrity, and honesty.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
