Mechanical Draughtsman

Role Overview

The Mechanical Draughtsman (Draftsman) is responsible for creating technical drawings, manufacturing schematics, and plans based on given specifications. This role involves supervising production, maintaining compliance, managing project costs, and ensuring quality throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Create technical drawings, manufacturing schematics, and plans based on given specifications.
• Prepare and present detailed technical drawings.
• Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
• Use computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to prepare drawings.
• Supervise Production staff to reduce project delays through proactive planning.
• Ensure project compliance with project specifications.
• Identify areas for process optimization and implement best practices for continuous improvement.
• Ensure conformance to customer specifications, company standards, and other regulatory requirements.
• Ensure manufacturing quality.
• Conduct regular safety inspections/compliance.
• Ensure all workers follow PPE and hazard prevention measures.
• Ensure adherence to engineering and industry standards.
• Assist in budget estimation and control project expenses.
• Monitor and manage inventory materials.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Ensure procurement follows cost-effective methods.
• Guide and train workers on technical skills and safety.
• Develop team members for future leadership roles.
• Maintain detailed project records and documentation.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Ensure clear and transparent communication in projects.
• Track and report any project risks or bottlenecks and address project-related concerns from workers and management.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technical Drawing from a recognized institution.
• Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks.
• 5 to 10 years of experience as a draftsman.
• Strong understanding of architectural and engineering principles/technical skills.
• Ability to translate concepts onto paper and to visualize things in three-dimensional terms.
• Demonstrate commitment to accuracy and manual dexterity.
• Great mathematical and cost management skills.
