Amentum is a global leader in designing, engineering, and modernizing critical systems and programs of national importance across defense, security, intelligence, energy, and the environment. We are currently seeking a Marine Sandblaster / Painter to join our team. This role is responsible for the preparation and application of various finishes to equipment, buildings, and other marine or land-based structures, ensuring surfaces are correctly treated and protected using industry-standard techniques and tools.
Principal Accountabilities
Surface Preparation: Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting. Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and/or sanding machines.
Finishing Application: Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, and other structures using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
Priming and Sealing: Prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats by applying primers or sealers.
Site Protection: Cover surfaces with canvas drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during the painting process.
Structural Repair: Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using caulking guns or putty knives.
Logistics and Setup: Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work requirements. Erect scaffolding and swing gates, or set up ladders to work above ground level.
Maintenance: Remove fixtures such as frames, door knobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting and reinstall them upon completion.
Waterproofing: Waterproof buildings using waterproofing membranes and caulking.
Reporting: Report directly to the Facilities Maintenance Specialist or their designee.
Knowledge & Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of the preparation and painting of equipment, buildings, and structures for both interior and exterior work.
Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills.
Ability to recognize occupational hazards of the painting trade and take necessary precautionary measures.
Experience & Education
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred (BA/BSc/HND also recognized).
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in paint preparation, painting, sanding, scuffing, or a related technical field is required.
