The Marine Environment Management Planning Specialist will be responsible for conducting economic valuations of marine ecosystems and identifying potential investment opportunities within the Moma and Machanga districts. The role involves cataloging coastal assets, analyzing ecosystem services through risk assessments, and performing baseline valuations to support sustainable development and conservation efforts. ### Responsibilities - Undertake economic valuation of marine ecosystems goods and services and identify potential investment opportunities in Moma and Machanga districts. - Classify and catalog coastal and marine assets, their ecosystem goods, and services to provide essential background context. - Conduct ecosystem services analysis through comparative risk analysis of various ecosystems, including provisioning, cultural, and regulating services. - Prioritize ecosystems for valuation in terms of food provisioning, raw materials, carbon sequestration, ecotourism, and regulation of extreme events. - Conduct a baseline ecosystem services valuation quantifying revenue in US dollars for marine fish catch, mariculture, agriculture, and the gathering of raw materials like fuelwood and timber. - Assess cultural services related to tourism and recreation, as well as carbon sequestration and regulating services. - Identify and present potential gaps in the ecosystem valuation exercise to relevant stakeholders. ### Qualifications and Experience - Education: Advanced university degree (Master's degree) in ecology, marine science, coastal ecosystems management, or a related discipline. A first-level degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. - Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in developing or implementing programs on coastal ecosystems conservation or natural resources management. - Technical Expertise: Experience in ecosystem management, community engagement, collaborative marine resource management plans, and working with governments on resource management activities. - Specialized Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge in obtaining ecological, social, and economic geospatial data, and a strong understanding of adaptation science from a socio-ecological perspective. - Regional Experience: Working experience with coastal communities in Mozambique is required. - Stakeholder Management: Experience working with diverse stakeholders at both strategic and technical levels with a record of timely delivery. ### How to Apply Interested and qualified candidates should apply online through the official United Nations careers portal.
