Amentum is seeking a Marine Engine Mechanic to join their team in Lamu. The role involves performing maintenance, repair, and preservation of various marine power systems, ensuring all operations meet U.S. Coast Guard and international safety standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and specialized maritime equipment.
Principal Accountabilities
Perform maintenance, repair, and preservation of gasoline and diesel engines, including two- and four-stroke outboard engines (25 horsepower and above).
Maintain hydraulic systems, cargo pumps and valves, tank valves, air compressors, and welding machines.
Ensure marine operations are conducted in accordance with the most current U.S. Coast Guard standards, CFR 49, IMDGC, OSHA 29 CFR 1917 and 1918, ATP 4-15, and host nation standards.
Develop fleet maintenance programs and employee training programs.
Ensure annual inspections are conducted on all watercraft.
Perform preventive maintenance including lubricating, cleaning, servicing, inspecting, and testing equipment.
Use manual and computerized diagnostic equipment to evaluate, troubleshoot, make adjustments, and diagnose equipment malfunctions or defects.
Repair or replace various parts and assemblies using mechanic power and hand tools.
Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to perform inspections, diagnosis, wiring procedures, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, ignition, lighting, warning, and injection assemblies.
Clean and care for tools, equipment, and shop facilities.
Follow safety rules and practices, complying with environmental standards in the performance of duties.
Perform heavy body and sub-frame repairs and/or gelcoat, fiberglass repairs.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of the principles of operation of internal combustion engines (gasoline and diesel, two and four stroke) and other mechanical components such as brake systems (air and hydraulic), electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
Ability to keep records and prepare written reports.
Ability to instruct equipment operators on the application of preventive maintenance.
Proficient English language skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations required on the job.
Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Valid country driver's license and passport.
Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
Experience & Education
Five (5) years’ experience working as an industrial Mechanic on Marine power system engines.
High school diploma or equivalent (KCSE).
Certifications from a related mechanical trade school.
Possess a valid Driver’s License.
Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.
