Role Overview
This position is responsible for leading the planning, design, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage electricity transmission grids and regional power interconnectors. The Managing Director is accountable to the Board of Directors for providing strategic direction and implementing the company’s strategic goals, vision, mission, and objectives. This includes the mobilization and management of resources, providing leadership, and ensuring the company achieves its mandate as established under the Energy Act and the State Corporations Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Governance: Provide leadership to Senior Management and Staff and provide overall administration of company operations under the Board's guidance.
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of the high-voltage electricity transmission grid and regional power interconnectors.
- Strategic Planning: Ensure compliance in formulating and implementing corporate objectives, strategies, and policies, including the Corporate Strategic Plan.
- Financial & Resource Mobilization: Prudent use of company finances and assets; mobilize resources through the Exchequer, Development Finance Institutions, and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Forge strategic links with Regulators, Government Ministries, Development Partners, and international stakeholders.
- Risk & Compliance: Manage corporate financial, commercial, and technical risks; ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and ethical requirements.
- HR Management: Establish human resource policies and organizational structures that ensure a clear succession plan, performance management, and staff welfare.
- Procurement Oversight: Oversee procurement of goods, works, and services in accordance with relevant laws.
- Innovation: Oversee the implementation of ICT, research, and innovation policies to support the company’s mandate.
- Representation: Serve as the official spokesperson of the company and the link between the Board and Management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Professional Membership: Active membership in a relevant professional body in good standing.
- Training: Completion of a leadership or strategic management course lasting at least four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Experience: A minimum of fifteen (15) years of related work experience, with at least ten (10) years at a senior management level.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in office automation applications and knowledge of industry market trends.
- Working Conditions: Requires both office-based work and field visits.
