Bwasco Water & Sewerage PLC is seeking a Manager – Internal Audit to provide leadership and strategic direction to the internal audit department. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing audit plans, overseeing risk management processes, and ensuring strict compliance with statutory and internal regulations to safeguard company assets.
Key Responsibilities
Audit Planning: Develop an annual audit plan based on risk assessment and the strategic objectives of BWASCO.
Communication: Communicate engagement plans and resource requirements for the internal audit function.
Risk Management: Oversee risk assessments on key business activities and guide the effectiveness of risk management processes; lead the implementation of the Risk Management Policy.
Compliance Framework: Develop, implement, and maintain a compliance framework for statutory, contractual, and internal obligations (e.g., code of conduct, internal controls).
Regulatory Review: Review compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and accounting pronouncements.
Performance Monitoring: Monitor key metrics to confirm achievement of risk and compliance plans and ensure audit recommendations are implemented.
Training: Drive training and sensitization of company staff regarding risk management and compliance.
Leadership: Provide leadership, training, and coaching to risk management staff while evaluating their performance.
Investigations: Carry out investigations on irregularities identified in audit reports or reported elsewhere.
Reporting: Generate regular and ad hoc performance reports, procurement plans, and work plans.
Technical Audits: Perform financial, operational, and information systems audits.
Advisory: Provide advisory services to top management and act as the Secretary to the Audit Committee.
Asset Verification: Evaluate the means of safeguarding assets and verify their existence.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance option), Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Business Administration from a recognized institution.
Advanced Education: A Master’s degree in a relevant field (Accounting, Finance, Economics, Auditing, etc.) is an added advantage.
Leadership Training: Completion of a Strategic Leadership Development Program (SLDP) or relevant qualification (at least six weeks).
Professional Membership: Must be a registered member in good standing with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), ICPAK, or CISA.
IT Proficiency: Certificate in computer application skills and demonstrated proficiency in their use.
Experience: At least 10 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial position.
