Role Overview
The Logistics Officer is responsible for managing end-to-end logistics operations, covering the importation of stock into the country, in-country distribution from the National Warehouse to Service Centres, and reverse logistics back to the Warehouse. The role ensures timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods while maintaining accurate inventory visibility across all locations. This position plays a critical role in supporting business continuity and service delivery by ensuring product availability, efficient distribution, and controlled returns.
Key Responsibilities
Importation & Demand Planning: Support demand planning for imported stock by aligning inbound shipments with sales forecasts, inventory targets, and service level requirements to ensure continuous product availability.
Import Management: Coordinate and manage the end-to-end importation process of solar products from international suppliers to the National Warehouse in Kenya, including shipment planning, customs clearance, regulatory approvals, and delivery timelines.
Documentation & Audit Compliance: Maintain complete, accurate, and well-structured logistics documentation (import, transport, delivery, and disposal records), ensuring full traceability and readiness for internal, external, and regulatory audits.
Warehouse & Distribution: Supervise unloading of inbound containers and verify seal integrity. Manage and control all in-country stock movements, including outbound distribution from the Warehouse to Service Centers and reverse logistics returns.
Reverse Logistics: Oversee and coordinate reverse logistics processes, including returns assessment, segregation, and reconciliation, ensuring accurate system updates and proper handling of returned stock.
E-Waste Management: Coordinate the safe, compliant, and fully documented disposal of electronic waste through licensed and certified recycling partners, in line with environmental regulations.
Inventory Integrity: Ensure all stock movements (inbound, outbound, inter-warehouse, and returns) are accurately recorded in inventory management systems to maintain real-time visibility and variance control.
3PL Management: Manage and monitor third-party logistics (3PL) partners, including transporters and clearing agents. Negotiate and review contracts, pricing, and service level agreements (SLAs) to optimize costs and mitigate risks.
Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, logistics suppliers, 3PL partners, customs brokers, and regulatory bodies.
Skills & Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in logistics and supply chain operations with emphasis on international import coordination and in-country distribution.
Strong knowledge of customs clearance procedures, HS classification, trade compliance, and e-waste regulatory requirements.
Experience leading cross-functional teams under measurable KPIs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related discipline.
Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional certification (e.g., CSCP, CLTD, CPIM) is required.
