The Librarian at Nyandarua National Polytechnic is responsible for implementing library policies and procedures, managing the custody and security of institution publications and information materials, and overseeing library staff and resources to ensure optimal utilization and efficient performance.
Key Responsibilities
Implement the library policies and procedures that conform to the national library guidelines in consultation with the Chief Librarian.
Take custody of the institution’s publications to ensure proper maintenance and availability when needed for future use.
Allocate tasks and supervise staff in the institution library for optimal resource utilization in accordance with set work plans and schedules.
Ensure Security of Information materials and the office equipment to assist in the management of documents to be charged and discharged to users.
Manage information storage and retrieval systems that conform to library best practices.
Develop procedures of collection, organization, interpretation and classification of information to aid library navigation.
Participate in development of the budget for the library as a useful source of information for the institution.
Supervise registration of new users and clearance of library users and compile a list of the fines for defaulters for sign-off by the Chief Librarian to establish security of information material.
Coordinate with the Chief Librarian to ensure the library computerized security system is in good working condition to enhance the protection of information material.
Update the website with important information and advise staff and other users accordingly to ensure accurate information dissemination.
Routinely supervise the library staff to ensure seamless flow of work and timely achievements of deliverables.
Conduct performance appraisal and handle disciplinary issues in the library for staff working under him to facilitate efficient performance management.
Chapter Six Requirements
Successful candidates will be expected to fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya by providing the following documents:
Certificate of Good Conduct
Tax Compliance Certificate
HELB Clearance
Clearance from EACC
Clearance from a recognized Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
Key Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science/Studies, Information Science or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
Minimum period of three (3) years relevant experience.
Member of the Kenya Library Association.
Certificate in computer applications.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated integrity, merit, and ability in work performance and results.
