Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979. KEMRI is the national body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya. The Institute is seeking a Legal Officer to handle critical legal functions, documentation, and compliance risks.
Role Purpose
The Legal Officer will be responsible for reviewing documentation, managing case files, identifying legal risks, and preparing contract documentation and legal opinions to support the Institute's operations.
Key Responsibilities
Reviewing and verifying documentation vis-à-vis historical information contained in individual case files.
Obtaining necessary information on case files and communicating updates to the supervisor.
Identifying potential legal and compliance risks within the institution.
Compiling contract documentation for preparation and other related legal documents for the Institute.
Drafting comprehensive legal opinions on various matters.
Undertaking other assignments as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from a recognized institution (Mandatory).
Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education (Mandatory).
Admission as an Advocate of the High Court (Mandatory).
Possession of a valid practicing certificate (Mandatory).
Proficiency in computer applications (Mandatory).
Strong communication and reporting skills.
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
High level of integrity and a team player.
