The Legal Intern will provide support to the Regulatory and Strategic Affairs Department through research, analysis, and participation in legal, regulatory, and governance activities. This role offers practical exposure to the telecommunications industry’s legal and compliance frameworks within a fast-paced, multi-jurisdictional environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Onboarding & Familiarisation: Support the team in understanding WIOCC’s legal, regulatory, and corporate governance frameworks.
Legal Research: Conduct research on corporate law, governance, and telecommunications regulatory compliance in Kenya and other jurisdictions.
Documentation: Assist in preparing legal briefings, regulatory compliance reports, and industry position papers.
Contract Management: Support contract review and drafting under supervision, including identifying key clauses and potential risks.
Compliance Analysis: Assist in analyzing telecommunications licensing requirements and compliance obligations.
Policy Development: Participate in drafting or updating compliance and policy documents in line with industry best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement: Contribute to preparations for stakeholder engagement and industry advocacy initiatives.
Reporting: Compile a final internship report and presentation summarizing key learnings, insights, and recommendations.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Recent graduate with a Degree in Law from a recognized institution or a student at Kenya School of Law, pending bar admission.
Interest: Demonstrated interest in corporate law, telecommunications regulation, or governance.
Skills: Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
Organization: Good organizational and administrative skills.
Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools.
Communication: Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
Experience: Experience in the telecommunications sector and technical legal drafting/assessment skills is considered an added advantage.
