Kilimall is Kenya’s largest online shopping mall. We launched in July 2014 and our mission is to become the No.1 E-commerce platform in Africa. We are seeking a Legal & Compliance professional to support the company in managing legal risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and drafting commercial contracts. The role involves working closely with internal departments and ensuring the company adheres to Kenyan laws, including data privacy and corporate governance regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal and commercial documents, including seller contracts, logistics SLAs, and lease agreements.
Risk Management: Support the company in identifying legal and compliance risks across business operations and recommend practical solutions.
Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal company policies. Coordinate responses to regulatory notices, inquiries, and compliance requirements from relevant authorities.
Data Privacy: Oversee data privacy compliance processes and support implementation of Data Protection Act requirements.
Corporate Governance: Manage corporate secretarial matters, including company records, statutory filings, and governance documentation.
Policy Review: Review internal policies and operational procedures to ensure legal compliance and business effectiveness.
Dispute Resolution: Support dispute resolution processes, including handling internal disputes, claims, and coordination with external counsel where necessary.
Advisory Support: Provide legal and compliance guidance to internal departments to support day-to-day business operations.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in legal and compliance functions.
Good understanding of Kenyan laws, including the Companies Act, Contract Law, and Data Protection Act.
Strong communication, analytical, and negotiation skills with the ability to work across cross-functional teams.
Previous experience in e-commerce, logistics, commercial law, or compliance functions is an added advantage.
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate is an added advantage.
Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
