Job Description
Laikipia University is seeking a dedicated academic professional for the position of Lecturer in Sociology of Education. The successful candidate will report to the Chairperson of the Department (CoD) and will be responsible for a wide range of academic, research, and administrative duties aimed at enhancing the university's educational standards.
Role Purpose and Responsibilities
Teaching and Training: Deliver instruction in the area of Sociology of Education at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Supervision and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to both students and staff within the area of specialization.
Research Leadership: Lead research and innovation teams, solicit research funds, and actively participate in funded research activities.
Program Development: Provide strategic leadership in the development, audit, and review of academic programs and research activities.
Academic Governance: Serve as a member of the departmental and School academic boards.
Collaboration: Create networks, linkages, and partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations.
Professional Contribution: Participate in research conferences and seminars, and publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals.
Administration: Manage examinations and assessments, participate in departmental budget development, and assist in the management of departmental programs.
Curriculum Support: Develop learning materials and research/innovation products for income generation.
Student Support: Offer career guidance and mentorship to students.
Persons Specifications
Option A (PhD Holders):
An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in Sociology of Education from an accredited and recognized university.
Must have published at least two (2) articles in refereed journals.
Registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Option B (Master's Holders):
A Master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university (applicable in special cases).
At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level or in a research institution or industry.
A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers.
Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Evidence of registration for a PhD and progress on the same.
