Laikipia University is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in the field of History. The primary purpose of this role is to provide high-quality teaching, supervision, and mentorship to students at both undergraduate and graduate levels while actively contributing to the university's research output and academic program development.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Training: Deliver instructional content and train students in the area of History specialization at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise and mentor both students and staff within the area of expertise; provide career guidance to students.
Research and Innovation: Lead research/innovation teams and actively participate in funded research activities. Participate in research conferences and seminars.
Program Development: Provide strategic leadership in the development, audit, and review of academic programs and research activities.
Academic Governance: Serve as a member of the departmental and School academic boards.
Scholarly Output: Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and develop learning materials.
Administrative Duties: Participate in the administration and management of departmental programs, activities, and budget development.
Partnerships: Create networks, linkages, collaborations, and partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations.
Income Generation: Develop research/innovation products for income generation.
Assessments: Handle the management and administration of examinations and assessments.
Qualifications and Experience
Option 1:
An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in History from an accredited and recognized university.
A minimum of at least two [2] articles published in refereed journals.
Registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Option 2 (Special Cases):
A Master’s degree in History from an accredited and recognized university.
At least three [3] years of teaching experience at the university level or in a research institution or industry.
A minimum of twenty-four [24] publication points, of which at least sixteen [16] must be from refereed journal papers.
Evidence of having registered for a PhD and clear indication of progress on the same.
Registration with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Required Clearances and Compliance
Successfully shortlisted candidates will be required to obtain clearance from:
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)
Registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
Commission for University Education (CUE) for foreign certificates.
Compliance with Chapter six [6] of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
