Welcome to South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU), a fully-fledged university and the successor to South Eastern University College (SEUCO). SEKU has grown significantly since its inception in 2008 and is seeking a Lecturer in Medical Surgical Nursing (Grade 6a) to join our academic team.
Role Purpose
The central role of the Lecturer is teaching and supervision, research and innovation, and community outreach. The successful candidate will be engaged on permanent and pensionable terms.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Supervision: Lecturing in the area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus; coordinating course projects and practical work; preparing teaching/learning materials; setting, invigilating, and marking examinations/assignments; and supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.
Research & Innovation: Carrying out research work in a relevant field; developing proposals for research funding; writing journal articles and books; and presenting academic papers in conferences, seminars, or workshops.
Curriculum Development: Developing and reviewing academic programmes and curricula.
Institutional Representation: Presenting research findings at international conferences and engaging with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages for university betterment.
Management: Undertaking consultancies, establishing collaborative networks for resource mobilization, and managing research and field trip budgets.
Publication Points System
Candidates are evaluated based on a specific points system for academic output:
University level scholarly book: 24 points
Patented invention or innovation: 16 points
Article in a refereed journal / Tertiary level scholarly book: 8 points
Refereed learning modules / University level book chapter: 6 points
Reviewed conference paper / Secondary school level text book / Consultancy reports / Refereed exhibitions: 4 points
Basic Salary: KES 121,928.00 – KES 187,710.00 per month
House Allowance: KES 55,286.00 per month
Commuter Allowance: KES 13,000.00 per month
Leave & Medical Cover: Provided as per University policy.
