Laikipia University is inviting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Lecturer in Animal Production. The academic staff members are expected to contribute significantly to the university's mission through high-quality teaching, research, and community engagement within their area of specialization. The role involves academic leadership, mentorship of both students and junior staff, and active participation in the development and review of academic programs.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Training: Deliver instruction in the area of Animal Production at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Research and Innovation: Lead research teams, participate in funded research activities, and publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals.
Academic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership in the development, audit, and review of academic programs and research activities.
Student Mentorship: Supervise and mentor students, providing career guidance and overseeing assessments.
Resource Mobilization: Solicit research funds and develop research/innovation products for income generation.
Administration: Participate in the management of departmental programs, develop departmental budgets, and serve on departmental and school academic boards.
Partnerships: Create networks, linkages, and collaborations with local, regional, and international organizations.
Course Material Development: Develop learning materials and teaching programs relevant to the expertise area.
Examination Management: Manage and administer examinations and assessments effectively.
Person Specifications and Requirements
Candidates must meet either of the following criteria sets:
Category 1: PhD Holders
An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in Animal Production or a relevant field from an accredited and recognized university.
Must have published at least two (2) articles in refereed journals.
Registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Category 2: Master’s Holders (Special Cases)
A Master’s degree in Animal Production or a relevant field from an accredited and recognized university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level or in a research institution or industry.
A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers.
Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Provide evidence of having registered for a PhD and indication of progress on the same.
