About the Role
Inkomoko is seeking an Investment Support Associate to join our team in Dadaab. This role is a trusted partner for Inkomoko Kenya clients, focusing on due diligence, investment preparation, portfolio management, and system administration.
Key Responsibilities
Due Diligence and Investment Preparation (30%)
- Support in the compilation of pipelines. Respond to inquiries from prospective borrowers and support them to apply for facility/investment products.
- Introduce the investment products to entrepreneurs, explaining requirements for repayment and the seriousness of debt financing.
- Conduct investment appraisals, collect detailed information (personal, business, and guaranties), and arrange to open new investment accounts.
- Provide necessary information for investment contracts' preparation and execution, and follow up for disbursement of investment upon fulfillment of conditions.
- Conduct due diligence on prospective borrowers, including site visits, document preparation, and coordination with the Business Development Advisors and Business Associates.
- Communicate materials to the Portfolio Manager and assist in preparing credit reports for Investment Committee meetings.
- Take photos of entrepreneurs, have them sign photo waivers, and ensure stories are posted on the Kiva platform for fundraising.
Portfolio Management (50%)
- Offer excellent customer service through daily conversations, correspondence, and site visits to maintain strong positive relationships with borrowers.
- Work with the Inkomoko Kenya Business Development Services team to ensure borrower success, and visit clients for monitoring.
- Maintain delinquency and default rates below set rates during yearly goal setting.
- Track information about borrowers and communicate effectively with key stakeholders about client status.
- Actively participate as a key staff in weekly Portfolio Review Meetings.
- Maintain a tracking system of borrower payments and contact information.
- Interact with government leaders, community leaders, and others to follow up on outstanding payments.
- Ensure adherence to requirements of the Kiva partnership, including reporting and journaling.
Investment Management System (20%)
- Maintain and demonstrate proficiency with investment software applications.
- Participate in system provider training to utilize applications to their fullest capacity, streamlining processes, and ensuring compliance.
- Ensure proper segregation of duties, and develop/maintain workflows for all stages of investment.
- Advise the management team on how to automate key lending processes.
- Ensure the lending team is provided with updates and procedural changes.
- Participate in the review and recommendation of operational systems and procedures.
- Prepare related reports and administer the system.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Degree in Finance or other related field.
- 2+ years of work experience in a relevant or applicable field.
- Experience in Islamic lending and practice is an added advantage.
- Strong financial and accounting skills; familiarity with business financial policies in Dadaab.
- Experience in investment management, microfinance, capital leases, and access to finance for Micro businesses and SMEs is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience dealing with customers, debt, and working in a lending environment.
- Experience providing business advice to entrepreneurs.
- Prior experience in using Investment Management System software.
- Decisive individuals with the ability to deliver unpleasant messages to debtors and assertiveness to secure payments.
- Experience in managing difficult clients and reaching positive outcomes.
- Very strong attention to detail and good follow-through.
- Comfort with the civil court system, and previous experience in litigation preferred.
- Unrelenting perseverance, personal integrity, and critical thinking skills.
- Fluency and excellent communication skills in English, Swahili, and Somali (highly desirable).
- Must be legally able to work in Kenya and be based in Dadaab.
