Inkomoko is seeking a dedicated Investment Officer to be based in Garissa & Dadaab. In this role, you will serve as a trusted partner to Inkomoko Kenya's clients. You will be responsible for managing client relationships, conducting due diligence, preparing investment packages, managing the loan portfolio, and administering the investment management system.
Key Responsibilities
Due Diligence and Investment Preparation (60%)
Respond to inquiries from prospective borrowers and assist them in applying for Inkomoko's investment products.
Introduce investment products to entrepreneurs, clearly explaining repayment terms and the responsibilities of debt financing.
Conduct investment appraisals, gather detailed applicant information (personal, business, and guarantees), and open new investment accounts.
Prepare and execute investment contracts and coordinate in-kind disbursement of investments.
Conduct comprehensive due diligence on prospective borrowers (including site visits and document compilation) in coordination with Business Development Advisors and Associates.
Compile appraisal materials for the Portfolio Manager and assist in drafting credit reports for Investment Committee reviews.
Capture client photographs, obtain signed media waivers, and compile client stories to publish on the Kiva platform for fundraising.
Portfolio Management (20%)
Deliver high-quality customer service through regular communication, feedback, and site visits to maintain positive borrower relationships.
Collaborate with the Business Development Services team to support borrower success and monitor active clients.
Maintain portfolio delinquency and default rates below established organizational targets.
Monitor borrower profiles and reliably report client status updates to key internal stakeholders.
Play an active role as a key team member in weekly Portfolio Review Meetings.
Manage and update tracking systems for borrower payments and contact details.
Collaborate with the Finance and Admin team to generate payment invoices and complete monthly reconciliations of investment department transactions.
Liaise with local authorities, government leaders, and legal/court representatives to resolve unresolved payment arrears.
Ensure full adherence to Kiva partnership protocols, including timely reporting and journaling.
Investment Management System (20%)
Maintain up-to-date disbursement and repayment records within the Core Banking System (CBS) powered by Mifos.
Demonstrate technical proficiency in managing and troubleshooting the investment software applications.
Collaborate with system vendors to optimize application utility, streamline operating procedures, and ensure data integrity.
Support configuration and parameter setups within the core banking system to meet cross-departmental needs.
Manage and audit user security access profiles to ensure appropriate segregation of duties.
Formulate and document standard workflows for all sequential investment processing stages.
Counsel the management team on automated methodologies to streamline lending workflows.
Supervise exact posting of payments, loan payoffs, and general balancing in the Core Banking System.
Assist in evaluating operational processes and system parameters to implement efficiency improvements.
Requirements
A University degree in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related academic discipline.
Native or professional fluency in both English and Swahili. Proficiency in local languages spoken in Garissa or Dadaab is a highly valued advantage.
Proven experience in Islamic lending principles and microfinance practices is a distinct advantage.
Solid financial analysis and accounting skills; strong understanding of Kenyan business financial policies and guidelines.
Prior experience in investment management, microfinance, leasing, or SME/Micro-enterprise financing is strongly preferred.
Practical background in credit risk, loan underwriting, debt recovery, and customer-facing relations.
Experience in advising or consulting with business owners and entrepreneurs.
Familiarity with using core banking software or investment management databases.
Decisive decision-maker with the assertiveness required to handle collections, deliver difficult news to clients, and resolve late payments.
Strong capability in conflict resolution and managing challenging customer situations effectively.
High level of accuracy, meticulous attention to detail, and persistent follow-through.
Comfort with civil court procedures; experience with debt litigation is preferred.
High personal integrity, unwavering perseverance, and strong critical thinking skills.
4+ years of professional experience in an applicable or related field.
Legally authorized to work in Kenya.
