Internship - Sustainability

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Internship Program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience within the Bank's operations. The Bank aims to be at the center of Africa’s transformation and to improve the quality of Africa’s growth, promote inclusive growth, and spur the transition to green growth. This specific internship track focuses on Sustainability and related projects that align with the Bank's mission.

Objectives

• Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
• Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.
• Note: Applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the Bank.

Fields of Study

Selected interns must be studying within the Job Families of the Bank, specifically including Sustainability, Agriculture, Human Capital, Engineering, Investment, Operations management & programming, Procurement, Delivery & Performance Monitoring, Risk Management, Finance, Capacity Development, Governance, Natural Resource and Knowledge Management, Economics, Statistics and Data Management, Human Resources Management, Information Management Technology, Real Estate Management and Services, Translation and Interpretation, Communication, Legal, Corporate Governance & Advisory Functions.

Timeline

Session 2 of the 2026 Internship Program is scheduled to commence in July 2026.

Terms and Conditions

• Duration: Internships are granted for a period of between three (3) and six (6) months. The internship is authorized only once for any candidate.
• Modality: Selected interns will perform their internship either remotely or on-site depending on the needs of their respective hiring units. Remote interns are expected to have access to a personal computer and a reliable internet connection.
• Support: Eligible interns will be provided with a monthly stipend and benefit from medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank during the period of their internship.
• Travel: On-site interns shall be responsible for their air travel and their general upkeep. The Bank will assist with obtaining entry and residence visas.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must have attained the age of majority in their country of nationality/origin and be not more than 30 years old at the time of commencement.
• Currently enrolled in a master's level degree program in a recognized higher learning institution.
• Candidates can apply within one (1) year of having obtained such a degree.
• Must be a national of a member country of the African Development Bank.
• Must provide a school enrollment letter or a copy of the degree.
• Fluency in at least one of the Bank's working languages (English or French).
• Proficiency in standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); knowledge of SAP is desirable.
