Role Overview
The Internal Auditor is responsible for providing independent assurance to the Board on the adequacy of the bank’s risk management and controls. The role involves the planning and execution of audits to evaluate the bank’s internal controls, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements within the financial services sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit Planning: Participate in the risk-based audit planning process to identify processes that should be prioritized for review and prepare individual project plans and memos.
- Activity Management: Plan assigned activities to ensure adherence to Internal Audit Service Level Agreements for timely completion.
- Execution: Apply a risk-based approach in the execution of audit engagements and any assigned ad-hoc investigations.
- Documentation: Prepare comprehensive working papers to support the audit work performed and conclusions reached.
- Tools & Analytics: Optimize the use of Audit Management tools such as TeamMate and leverage data analytics.
- Compliance Monitoring: Stay informed on regulatory changes to determine their impact on audit approaches and assess the consequences of non-compliance.
- Reporting: Ensure audit reports articulate gaps in risk management processes, internal control deficiencies, and regulatory non-compliance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct effective exit meetings to discuss findings professionally with appropriate organizational levels and engage with stakeholders to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience: 7 years overall in banking, with at least three (3) years specifically in Internal Audit within the financial sector.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and statutory requirements in financial services.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in the use of TeamMate is preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Finance, Business, or any business-related field.
- Certification: Relevant professional qualification such as CPA(K) or ACCA.
- Membership: Must be a member of a relevant professional body.
