Fairtrade International is an internationally recognized, non-profit organization that works to secure fairer trade terms so that farmers and workers in developing countries can invest in a better future for themselves and their communities. The Internal Audit and Risk Officer plays a key role in ensuring organizational integrity, evaluating internal controls, and mitigating risk.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Developing a comprehensive programme of engagement coverage for assigned areas.
- Developing risk-based audit plans, programmes, and schedules.
- Ensuring conformity to acceptable standards, plans, budgets, and schedules.
- Conducting preliminary reviews of the areas to be audited.
- Assisting in the preparation of specific audit assignment plans and programmes.
- Performing audit tests on internal controls in accounting, administrative, and operational procedures.
- Examining and evaluating internal controls to ascertain their adequacy and make recommendations for improvement.
- Ensuring that audit findings are properly documented.
- Preparing draft audit reports detailing audit findings.
- Leading specific audit teams.
- Reviewing prepared audit test procedures, draft notifications, and request for information memos.
- Following up on audits to determine the extent of implementation of audit recommendations.
- Oversight of risk management activities.
- Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or equivalent professional qualification.
- Member of a professional body (e.g., Institute of Certified Public Accountants or equivalent).
Experience and Knowledge:
- A minimum of eight (8) years in relevant work with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role in a comparable position.
- Thorough understanding of international NGO financial reporting standards.
- Expertise in risk management and audit processes.
- General fraud prevention strategies.
- Ability to project and uphold independence of mind.
Skills:
- Strong analytical, organization, and planning skills.
- Able to meet strict deadlines to inform business decisions.
- Strong negotiating skills.
