Job Description
Role Overview
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for human settlements, mandated by the General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Urban Economy Branch of UN-Habitat is seeking an intern to support the Programme Review Committee (PRC) Secretariat in improving project quality, compliance, and data management. This role involves administrative tasks, monitoring project implementation, and assisting in the development of project frameworks.
Responsibilities
Assist the PRC Secretariat in improving project quality and compliance through administrative and technical support.
Help establish and manage data banks to identify project trends, patterns, and early warning indicators.
Perform cross-checks of data entry within the project information system to ensure accuracy.
Assist in database management and maintenance.
Contribute to project data reconciliation exercises across various branches and project offices.
Support the establishment of an implementation monitoring system at UN-Habitat.
Assist project teams in enhancing the quality of logical frameworks and theories of change during the project entry phase.
Provide guidance to project staff regarding the PRC process.
Respond to information requests from various UN-Habitat branches and offices.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
Have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree.
Additional criteria include:
Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite.
A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions.
Preferred areas of study: Undergraduate or graduate degree in data science, computer science, economics, political science, international development, social sciences, or a related field.
