Job Description
The Open University of Kenya is seeking academic professionals to join the faculty of Information Technology, Computing, and Artificial Intelligence. The university aims to address the capacity limitations of traditional universities through innovative, technology-driven teaching and learning methodologies, including online and distance education. The role involves delivering high-quality education to a large student body, leveraging flexible learning modes, and supporting students in a digital environment.
Areas of Specialisation
Candidates are expected to have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
AI & Data Science: Computer Vision and Image Analysis, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Responsible and Explainable AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and Generative AI.
Data Management: Database Administration, Big Data Analytics with Apache Hadoop, and Data Governance, Ethics, and Law.
Software & Systems: System Analysis and Design, Web Application Programming, and Secure Software Development.
Security & Infrastructure: Information Systems Control and Audit, Cybersecurity Law and Ethics, and Internet Technologies.
Responsibilities
Deliver course content through digital platforms and online distance learning.
Manage and curate digital learning materials.
Support and mentor students in an online environment.
Conduct assessments and stay current with emerging trends in IT and AI.
Ensure adherence to data governance, ethics, and relevant laws in teaching and research.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Education: An earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited University. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited University (in special cases) with at least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level and registered in good standing for a PhD in the relevant field.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer use with the ability to handle and create digital content. Ability to support students online.
Professional Standing: Membership with relevant professional bodies is required.
