Mount Kenya University is seeking to recruit competent and dedicated individuals for the position of ICT Officer (2 Posts). The successful candidates will be responsible for assessing departmental ICT requirements, providing comprehensive end-user support, and maintaining the university's core software applications and databases. This role is central to ensuring the efficiency and security of the university's technological infrastructure and providing critical training to staff for effective service delivery.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Requirement Analysis: Assess the ICT requirements of various departments in coordination with other ICT staff to ensure specific needs are met.
User Support: Conduct user training and provide ongoing support for all staff to ensure they have the necessary skills for effective service delivery.
Reporting & Analytics: Develop and maintain tools for preparing statistics and reports required by the University management.
Cross-functional Coordination: Work closely with the applications, network, technical, and administration teams to coordinate user support across the institution.
Data Security: Develop, maintain, and execute data and application backup and security procedures regularly.
System Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain core university applications and databases to meet expanding institutional needs.
Systems Integration: Collaborate with the network and ICT support teams toward achieving a fully integrated information system.
Business Continuity: Design and implement disaster recovery and continuity systems for all software applications and databases.
Team Leadership: Train and develop requisite leadership and technical skills within the Applications Management Team.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must meet either of the following sets of requirements:
Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent specialized in ICT or a related field.
Professional certification in specific areas such as Web, Security, or Networking (Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle).
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position within a recognized academic institution or a reputable organization.
Option 2:
Higher National Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Information Technology, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Professional certification in specific areas such as Web, Security, or Networking (Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle).
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position within a recognized academic institution or a reputable organization.
