World Vision is seeking a Humanitarian Emergency Affairs (HEA) Intern to join their team in Nairobi. The HEA Intern will support preparedness, information management, data collection, and analysis for disaster management, early warning monitoring, and humanitarian responses.
Key Responsibilities
Preparedness and Information Management
- Contribute to the definition of information requirements and the development of data flows, data quality assurance & quality control, and information management standard operating procedures and guidelines.
- Support with the design, development, and testing of data collection tools using platforms like ArcGIS, Power BI, ODK, Kobo, etc., for use in disaster management, community risk assessments, impact-based early warning monitoring, and preparedness tracking.
- Consolidate humanitarian response data from 9 field offices and coordinate the development and dissemination of information products such as situation reports, maps, sector infographics, and dashboards.
- Support the collection, cleaning, and analysis of primary and secondary humanitarian and preparedness data from field offices for evidence-informed regional planning, anticipatory action triggers, and community-level risk reduction strategies.
- Support the documentation of all HEA products including lessons learned, best practices, Real Time Learning etc., and maintain internal data management systems (e.g., Box, Teams, SharePoint).
- Maintain an updated humanitarian response register and action points running sheet. Improve data quality in the region/countries through field support, monitoring, and feedback.
- Work closely with humanitarian advisors and Anticipatory Action Coordinator to ensure the data is fit for purpose.
Administrative Support
- Support in preparation of key events organized by HEA (e.g., trainings, etc.).
- Support in capturing notes and minutes for meetings and any other assigned tasks.
Interdepartmental Support
- Actively participate and support resource mobilisation efforts for humanitarian and disaster risk reduction interventions.
- Work with HEA, Advocacy, and Communications departments in amplifying the voices of children and evidence-based impact through identifying potential stories and content that can be multi-purposed.
- Support and coordinate with the Regional Office and Field Offices in development of regional blogs and opinion pieces for external and internal publication.
- Work closely with RAM as per request to provide any necessary support.
External Engagements
- Participate in critical meetings with key stakeholders when delegated to ensure World Vision is well represented.
- Consolidate write-ups of external meetings for internal sharing.
Other Duties
- Perform any other related duties as required.
- Attend and participate in devotional meetings.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Information Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Graduates with an interest in Disaster Management and passionate about data analytics, having graduated within two years of application.
- Preferred Knowledge: High interest and good understanding of the humanitarian industry, Sphere Standards, and Core Humanitarian Standards.
