Job Description
The Kenya Red Cross Society is seeking a Health Information Systems Officer/Records. This role is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing practices, processes, and procedures that allow for effective management of data, people, resources, and processes to optimize overall organizational performance. The officer will manage routine and non-routine data of community-based programs, ensure system compliance, and oversee reporting to national and county systems.
Key Responsibilities
Process Management: Plan and design practices, processes, and procedures to optimize overall organizational performance and resource management.
Risk Management: Assess and control the center's exposure to risks of various kinds, applying knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
Innovation: Develop new, better, or significantly different ideas, methods, solutions, or initiatives that result in improvement of the settlement's performance and meeting organizational commitments.
Data Collection & Analysis: Determine data to be collected based on program needs and analyze the adequacy of data collection and evaluation processes.
Data Management Procedures: Organize, implement, and enforce data management procedures, establishing and ensuring data quality standards.
Training & Capacity Building: Train employees on proper data management tools, equipment, and proper application of updates.
Vendor & Software Management: Manage contracts with software vendors, troubleshoot data-related problems, and ensure that software and systems operate correctly at all times.
Compliance: Ensure the data management system complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
Reporting: Prepare regular reports for various departments and levels, and ensure KRCS reports to national (KHIS) and county reporting systems. Develop special reports upon request.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Education: Diploma in Health Information Systems or related field.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years' experience in Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR), and routine/non-routine data management of community-based programs.
System Knowledge: Extensive knowledge and competency in using updated Kenya Health Information System (KHIS) tools, uploading data, and generating reports.
Analytical Tools: Demonstrable ability to undertake programming and/or analysis in one or more of: SPSS, STATA, MySQL, or SharePoint technologies.
Technical and Soft Competencies
Extensive knowledge of data management software.
Excellent mathematical abilities and organizational skills.
Superior presentation skills and ability to explain complex processes to others.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with close attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated and able to accomplish job tasks with little to no supervision.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and internet utilization).
