Equity Bank Kenya is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Transactional Banking to design and execute the Bank’s enterprise-wide Transactional Banking strategy. This role is pivotal in ensuring alignment with overall corporate objectives, growth priorities, and customer value propositions. The successful candidate will lead innovation and digital transformation across payments, cash management, and distribution channels to enhance scalability and market competitiveness, positioning Equity Bank as a leader in transaction banking through technology and customer insights.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Design and execute the Bank’s enterprise-wide Transactional Banking strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and customer value propositions.
Champion innovation and digital transformation in payments, cash management, and distribution channels.
Position Equity Bank as a market leader by leveraging technology, partnerships, and customer insights.
Enterprise Segment Enablement
Deliver scalable transactional solutions to unlock growth in Retail, SME, Corporate, Institutional, and Public Sector segments.
Partner with Segment Heads and Relationship Teams to strengthen client relationships through transaction-led value propositions.
Payments & Cash Management
Lead the development and commercialization of best-in-class solutions, including corporate cash management platforms and bulk payments infrastructure.
Oversee seamless integration with national and international payment schemes to ensure interoperability and security.
Channels Leadership (ATM & Agency Banking)
Provide strategic oversight of the ATM network to drive coverage, uptime, and efficiency.
Scale and strengthen Agency Banking, focusing on network growth, liquidity management, and compliance governance.
Optimize the channel mix to improve accessibility and reduce the cost-to-serve.
Merchant Acquiring & Digital Acceptance
Lead the merchant acquiring strategy, accelerating onboarding and POS deployment.
Grow merchant revenue and transaction volumes through innovative payment acceptance.
Expand e-commerce and digital acceptance capabilities.
Financial Stewardship & Risk Management
Own and drive the Transactional Banking P&L, delivering growth in fee and commission income.
Strengthen revenue generation through transaction-led banking.
Ensure full regulatory compliance and robust governance, enhancing fraud prevention and operational risk management.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, or Information Systems/Technology.
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree (MBA, Finance, Strategic Management, or FinTech) is highly preferred.
Experience: 12–15 years of progressive banking experience, with a strong track record in transaction banking, payments, or digital financial services.
Leadership: Minimum 7 years in senior leadership positions, demonstrating the ability to lead high-performing teams.
Compliance Knowledge: Deep expertise in regulatory frameworks, payment systems, and operational risk management.
Segment Experience: Experience serving diverse customer segments (Retail, SME, Corporate, Institutional, and Public Sector) is highly desirable.
Certifications: Professional qualifications in Payments, Transaction Banking, Risk & Compliance, or Project Management are an added advantage.
