Mirema School is a Christian-based primary school offering multiple curricula including 2.6.6.3/8.4.4, International British Curriculum, and Special Needs Curriculum. We are looking for a dedicated Head of Department - Boarding to oversee the daily operations of our boarding facility. This leadership role involves coordinating staff, managing schedules, and ensuring a safe, disciplined, and supportive environment for all boarders. The successful candidate will work closely with various departments to ensure the well-being and academic readiness of students.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight: Support the development, review, and communication of the boarding schedule, rules, and requirements to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Staff Management: Ensure all boarding staff understand and consistently implement established boarding routines and expectations.
Calendar Coordination: Coordinate the implementation of the boarding calendar and related events in collaboration with other departments, ensuring activities run within set timelines.
Student Discipline: Oversee and support staff in maintaining pupil discipline and adherence to the daily boarding and school schedules.
Routine Management: Manage time-related routines such as wake-up, lights-out, and bedtime, based on school guidelines and age-appropriate practices.
Grooming and Hygiene: Supervise personal grooming and monitor high cleanliness standards within the dormitories, including bed arrangement and regular airing of bedding.
Student Welfare: Identify children with specific needs (such as bed-wetting) and help develop a discreet and supportive management plan with relevant staff.
Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of boarding attendance and follow up on any absenteeism, working closely with the admissions, head teacher, and accounts offices.
Nutritional Oversight: Liaise with the kitchen team to ensure all boarders receive appropriate meals, especially those with special dietary needs, in line with school policy.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Teaching.
Current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
A professional qualification in Counselling.
At least 3 years of relevant experience in a school boarding environment.
A valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
