AVSI, created in 1972, is a non-profit organization that carries out development cooperation and humanitarian aid projects throughout the world. The GIS Technician will play a critical role in supporting climate change risk assessment and urban planning efforts by managing spatial data and producing cartographic outputs.\n\n### Main Tasks and Responsibilities\n\n* Coordinate the collection of community-level data related to climate change risk assessment in the field. Organize and manage databases, ensuring data quality and validation.\n* Support the development of methodologies for risk analysis and assist in the analysis of exposure, vulnerabilities, and hazards within the project area.\n* Support the development of urban planning and climate change adaptation plans.\n* Coordinate the validation of risk maps with communities and the DRR Specialist. Produce cartographic outputs for risk mapping in collaboration with the consultant.\n* Support the Global AVSI team in the preparation of urban assessments and GIS-based cartography. Assist the Global AVSI team in managing and organizing the ArcGIS Hub.\n* Deliver training on GIS tools to the Global AVSI team.\n\n### Essential Requirements\n\n* Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or a related field.\n* At least 3 years of relevant experience.\n* Proven experience in community-based urban projects, particularly in informal settlements or emergency contexts.\n* Solid experience using GIS software, including QGIS and ArcGIS.\n* Demonstrated experience in Disaster Risk Management (DRM).\n* Knowledge of Kenyan urban planning regulations and legal frameworks.\n* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).\n* Good knowledge of AutoCAD.\n* Familiarity with office equipment and computer hardware.\n* Strong coordination skills and ability to work effectively within an international team.
