Job Description
The GIS Officer will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to operationalize the GeoInformation System (GIS) technology and function. The role aims to enhance efficiency in various operations within the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
Key Responsibilities
Databases & Analysis
Support the development of a framework for GIS operationalization within the authority.
Assist in the preparation of work plans and budgets for GIS activities.
Collect, collate, and compile relevant datasets required to populate the GIS.
Support the development, maintenance, and updating of GIS databases.
Support the integration of data from various sources into the GIS databases.
Support the formulation and implementation of GIS data sharing protocols and workflows within the Authority's departments.
Perform standard spatial analysis functions.
Create thematic maps, charts, and graphs to visually represent data insights.
Assist in preparing reports and presentations based on GIS analysis results.
Design and create digital maps using GIS software, including customizing map layouts, symbology, and legends.
Update existing maps with new data and changes.
Support GIS project planning, data updating scheduling, and quality control procedures.
Maintain GIS databases documentation and metadata.
Provide GIS operations user support and assist in in-house training of staff.
Applications Development
Support the development of a framework for GIS operationalization.
Support the development and customization of GIS application programs to cater to various user requirements.
Manage and maintain in-house GIS application programs.
Support the development of web and mobile mapping and visualization applications.
Assist in the integration of GIS with other systems in the Authority.
Formulate and implement GIS data sharing protocols and workflows.
Provide user support and staff training related to GIS applications.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Geo-information Systems, Surveying and Photogrammetry, Geomatics, Geospatial Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Graduate membership with the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), Computer Society, ICT Authority, or Geospatial Society of Kenya (GeoSK).
Proficiency in computer applications.
