Job Description
Role Overview
An officer at this level will work under the guidance and supervision of a senior officer. The primary objective of this role is to manage and analyze geospatial data to support various county operations, planning, and development initiatives. This involves the maintenance of GIS databases, spatial analysis, and the creation of thematic visual aids.
Responsibilities and Duties
Develop and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) databases and spatial layers.
Conduct spatial analysis for regional and urban planning and development.
Generate, design, and update maps, charts, and thematic layers.
Integrate various data sources, including survey, aerial, and satellite imagery, into mapping systems.
Provide GIS services to different County Departments.
Support County planning processes, including CIDP (County Integrated Development Plan), CSP (County Spatial Plan), and Sectoral Plans among others.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geomatics Engineering, Geospatial Information Science, Geoinformatics, Surveying, Geography in GIS, Urban/Regional Planning, Environmental Science with GIS, ICT (GIS option), or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Practical, hands-on skills in industry-standard GIS software, including ArcGIS, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine, and AutoCAD Map.
Competence in managing spatial databases such as Post GIS, Oracle Spatial, and SQL Server Spatial.
Professional certifications (e.g., ESRI Certification, GGIM Training, RCMRD Nairobi training programs) are an added advantage.
Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) through workshops and seminars.
Membership with the Institute of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) - GIS and Remote Sensing Chapter.
Registration with the Land Surveyors Board (LSB) if involved in cadastral or licensed survey work.
Registration with the Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK) if the role falls under Geospatial Engineering.
Training or professional development from the Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) where applicable.
Salary Scale
CPSB 09: Ksh. 41,420 - 57,230 per month plus applicable increments and benefits.
