The Fairmont Norfolk is a historic hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, owned by the luxury hotel chain, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. The General Accountant role involves reporting to the Unit Accountant and supporting various reporting and analysis requirements. This position ensures accurate and timely financial documentation, conducts cash and stock audits, and manages tax compliance and general ledger maintenance.
Responsibilities
Assist the Unit Accountant in the preparation of any and all reporting and analysis requirements regardless of reporting frequency including daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc. This includes postings of vouchers.
Ensure information presented in all reports is accurate and reflective of actual business transactions.
Ensure all reports are prepared on a timely basis meeting all deadlines.
Assist in conducting surprise spot-checks on General Cashier’s float and Outlet Cashier’s float on a periodic basis.
Assist in conducting surprise stock-count inspections in addition to or during the month-end stock-count conducted by the Cost Controller’s office.
Assist in the preparation of all groundwork required for all statutory audit and tax/fee requirements.
Provide assistance during the internal and external audit review process.
Administer all tax filing and government reporting procedures to ensure accurate, timely information is provided in compliance with laws and regulations.
Maintain General Ledger with journal entries and perform month-end reconciliation of Balance Sheet Accounts.
Prepare daily and monthly bank reconciliations of online statements.
Prepare monthly assigned journals and allocate shared expenses among departments.
Assist in compilation of departmental budget and forecast.
Maintain the Fixed Asset Register.
Supervise, correct, and demonstrate all duties and tasks in the assigned Place of Work to the set standard.
Adapt and rotate within different sub-departments of the Accounting & Finance Department as needed.
Ensure all files and reports are properly filed for future reference.
Assist in carrying out quarterly, bi-yearly, and yearly inventory of operating equipment.
Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Cluster Director of Finance and Business Support.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a luxury hotel or resort.
Completed a Bachelor's degree preferably in Accountancy.
An active CPA licence is an advantage.
Knowledgeable in Sun Systems, Opera, Future Log and Kenya Taxation.
