Miriam Bella is a high-end, ethical fashion brand driven by a mission to create meaningful impact through fashion. We are seeking a freelance Grant Researcher & Proposal Writer based in Kenya, or with strong knowledge of the Kenyan funding landscape, to support Miriam Bella in identifying relevant grant opportunities and preparing compelling applications. You will research grant opportunities, assess fit, support application strategy, and write strong proposals and supporting documents. This role is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, highly organised, and experienced in grant prospecting and proposal writing.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify relevant local and international grant opportunities for Miriam Bella.
- Find opportunities aligned with areas such as women’s economic empowerment, artisan livelihoods, ethical production, sustainability, creative enterprise, small business growth, and social impact.
- Review eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application requirements.
- Create and maintain a grant pipeline and application calendar.
- Draft compelling grant applications, concept notes, letters of interest, and supporting narratives.
- Work closely with the founder to gather information needed for applications, including business details, impact stories, budgets, and supporting documents.
- Tailor each submission to the goals and priorities of the funder.
- Track submissions, deadlines, follow-ups, and outcomes.
- Recommend ways to improve future applications.
Requirements
- Proven experience in grant research, grant writing, proposal writing, fundraising, or business development.
- Strong research, writing, and editing skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to identify high-potential funding opportunities rather than taking a quantity-based approach.
- Experience preparing persuasive applications and managing deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly.
- Strong organisational skills and follow-through.
- Applicants based in Kenya are preferred.
- A diploma or degree in a relevant field is an advantage, but strong practical experience is more important.
- Experience in social enterprise, women-led businesses, sustainability, artisan development, fashion, or impact-driven brands is a plus.
Compensation
- This is a commission-based / success-fee role only.
- There is no fixed salary or retainer attached to this position at this stage.
- Compensation will be a pre-agreed percentage of grant funding successfully secured from applications you have materially contributed to.
- The percentage and terms will be discussed and agreed before work begins.
- There may be an opportunity for a longer-term paid arrangement based on performance and results.
How to Apply
Please send your CV, a short note outlining your relevant experience, examples of grants, proposals, or funding applications you have worked on, a brief summary of results achieved (where possible), and your expected percentage or preferred commission structure.
