African Management Institute (AMI) is seeking a Finance Officer for a consultancy role. AMI enables ambitious businesses across Africa to thrive by delivering workplace learning that equips entrepreneurs and managers with the tools and training they need to succeed. AMI combines online and mobile tools with in-person workshops and on-the-job practice. The Finance Officer will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting budgeting and donor reporting processes.
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Controls
Manage day-to-day financial operations including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and expense tracking.
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure documentation is audit-ready at all times.
Implement and monitor internal controls and compliance processes.
Support procurement and contracting processes with the necessary financial checks.
Budgeting & Reporting
Support development of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
Prepare monthly financial reports, variance analyses, and cashflow tracking.
Ensure timely and accurate donor financial reporting.
Grants & Donor Compliance
Track grant expenditure against approved budgets and flag variances early.
Ensure compliance with donor rules, reporting timelines, and allowable costs.
Support proposal budgeting and cost narrative development.
Audit & Risk Management
Support audit processes and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
Maintain financial risk registers and support fraud prevention measures.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with programme teams to align budgets with workplans.
Support coordination between finance and programme delivery for compliance and reporting.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in financial management, preferably in an NGO or donor-funded environment.
Professional accounting qualification (CPA/ACCA — partial or complete).
Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and donor compliance requirements.
Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with accounting systems.
Sharp attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
Experience working in multi-country or network-based programs.
Experience with grant management and audit processes.
Exposure to youth, climate, agriculture, or international development programs.
