Old Mutual Kenya is seeking a Data, Risk and Sustainability Officer for Faulu Microfinance Bank. The primary purpose of this role is to enhance and implement tools to identify, assess, mitigate and monitor key risks across the bank, including operational, credit, market, ESG, and liquidity risks. The officer will also coordinate the bank's sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Identification and Mitigation: Enhance and implement tools to identify, assess, mitigate and monitor key risks (operational risk, credit risk, market risk, ESG risk and liquidity risk).
ESG Framework: Coordinate the development and implementation of the ESG Framework and work plan of the bank and ensure it is regularly updated.
Risk Reporting: Ensure ESG risk reporting requirements are observed including the adoption in Risk Monitoring toolkits i.e. RCSA, risk registers.
Risk Culture: Contribute to the enhancement of risk awareness among staff and promotion of risk culture in the organization by conducting training on risk/control matters.
Risk Documentation: Coordinate the updates and documentation of branch/departmental risk registers and risk assessments.
Internal Controls: Monitor, test, and report on internal control systems.
Management Information (MI): Maintain 'fit for purpose' MI comprising Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), key risks, key controls, and management actions.
Compliance: Ensure bank-wide compliance to the approved Risk Management Policy and framework, regulatory requirements, and the Old Mutual policies.
Action Plan Follow-up: Follow up on management action plans arising from all assurance findings to ensure timely closure by responsible owners.
Product Assessment: Conduct risk assessments of the Bank’s products and offerings and conduct post-implementation monitoring and review.
Reporting: Prepare risk reports necessary to enable the Risk Manager and the Head of Risk and Compliance to advise stakeholders.
Risk System Management: Monitor and ensure maintenance of risk events and follow up for closure on the risk system (CURA).
Financial Crime Compliance: Implement and enforce board-approved AML, KYC & CFT policies within the area of responsibility.
Project Risk: Monitor project risks for all key projects being undertaken by the bank.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
Knowledgeable in risk and compliance matters with working knowledge of banking operations.
Ability to work independently with good interpersonal and project management skills.
Analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail.
High level of accuracy with the ability to work under fixed deadlines.
Willingness to perform visits to branches and other business units.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
Professional certification in risk management (e.g., ACAMS).
At least 4 years of experience in a bank or financial institution.
A minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in risk, compliance, or audit functions.
