The National Treasury is seeking a qualified Environment and Climate Assessment Officer. This role involves providing specialized environmental management advisory services, designing, monitoring, and evaluating development projects, and establishing vital interrelationships between international organizations and national governments.
Responsibilities
Provide environmental management advisory services and hands-on experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects.
Establish and manage interrelationships among international organizations and national governments.
Ensure projects comply with policy and regulatory frameworks for environmental and climate assessments within the agricultural and livestock sectors of Kenya.
Develop environmental and social management systems and execute relevant safeguards.
Prescribe technical solutions to environment and natural resource management problems.
Manage project budgets and programs, and prepare comprehensive progress reports.
Interpret environmental assessment documents and oversee environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs).
Support fieldwork and align projects with international policy frameworks related to climate change and environment financing.
Requirements and Qualifications
A relevant Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Agriculture, Rural Development, Natural Resource Management, Environment, or Economics.
Minimum 8 years of relevant and progressive experience in providing environmental management advisory services.
Hands-on experience in design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects.
At least 3 years of experience in projects funded by development partners.
Sound knowledge of policy and regulatory frameworks for environmental, climate assessments, and natural resource management in Kenya's agricultural/livestock context.
Demonstrated capacity to develop environmental and social management systems and execute safeguards.
Practical knowledge of Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills.
Good communication skills in the national languages.
Experience in environment and social impact assessments and management plans is required.
Previous experience in development and implementation of green finance operations is a major advantage.
Experience in fieldwork and international policy frameworks for climate change and environment financing is an asset.
