The English Teacher will deliver engaging, inquiry-based instruction to develop students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, and critical analysis. The role involves planning and implementing IB-aligned lessons, assessing learning using criterion-based approaches, and fostering a deep appreciation for language and literature. The teacher will support holistic student development, promote independent thinking, and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive learning environment. Additionally, the position may potentially serve as Head of Department, providing leadership, curriculum oversight, and supporting continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons aligned with IB (MYP & DP) curriculum standards.
Skill Development: Develop students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and literary analysis.
Instructional Design: Design differentiated learning experiences to meet diverse student abilities using inquiry-based and student-centered teaching approaches.
Assessment: Implement formative and summative assessments using IB criteria, provide timely constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records.
Examination Prep: Prepare students for internal and external assessments, including IB examinations.
Classroom Management: Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
Pastoral Support: Act as a Homeroom Tutor, supporting students’ academic and pastoral needs.
Extracurricular Activities: Contribute to co-curricular activities such as debate, drama, or writing clubs.
Communication: Engage actively with parents through conferences and communication channels.
Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum planning and school initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education with specialization in English, Literature, or a related field from a recognized university.
Professional Registration: Candidates currently in Kenya must have Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) registration.
Pedagogical Skills: Demonstrated ability to teach in a diverse, multicultural, international school environment with a strong understanding of student-centered, inquiry-based pedagogy.
Experience: 2 to 3 years’ experience teaching IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or IB Diploma (DP), or a comparable curriculum, preferably within an international curriculum setting.
